Answer the Call
Church News | Sunday, 22 December 2019 |
At the 10.30am service this morning we heard how Mary, the central character in the Christmas story answered God’s call and allowed herself to be used by Him to be the mother of the Messiah, despite the fear of becoming ostracised by her family and friends and even perhaps having to face the threat of death by stoning if she was found to be guilty of sin and shame. But Mary wasn’t the only one who listened to God’s call, for although Joseph was preparing to dismiss Mary due to her state, he listened to God’s messenger who assured him that Mary was with child by the Holy Spirit, consequently he stayed by her side protecting her and her unborn baby until he was able to adopt the Holy Child and rear him as his own. It seems that God uses ordinary people like Mary and Joseph and you and I to perform extraordinary work.
In the evening, many of us gathered together for the Village Carol Service during which we sang all our favourite carols and listened to many of our favourite bible passages which told us again of the birth of Our Lord and Saviour – It was so warm and wonderful. Following the Carol Service, we were invited into St Leonard’s Hall for cake and refreshments also, the raffle was called.
