The Anglia Singers Concert
Church News | Monday, 26 November 2018 |
What a joy it was to hear the wonderful concert performed by the Anglia Singers choir yesterday afternoon. The church was packed to welcome the choir, along with the children from Bishop’s School Choir. The Anglia choir was formed in 1992 to give a Christmas carol service in Chelmsford, on the site now occupied by Anglia Ruskin University and they now give three concerts a year, to raise money for local charities.
Sunday’s Concert was entitled ‘Remembrance and Renewal’ following on from the services held all over the country to remember the ending of the First World War as well as those who gave their life in the Second World War and in more recent conflicts.
St Mary with St Leonard’s Church here in Broomfield was still beautifully decorated with hand-crafted poppies to help give a remembrance ambiance for the 200 or so people who came along to hear the two choirs perform and to welcome the Mayor of Chelmsford City Council, Cllr. Yvonne Spence and her escort. The memorial concert was given in aid of our wonderful church organ that will in time need a complete overhaul to restore it to its original sound and splendour.
The Vicar of St Mary’s Reverend Carolyn Tibbott spoke briefly at the end of the concert and thanked the Anglia Singers and the Bishop’s School Choir for coming along to perform in aid of the Church Organ fund which was organised by Jill Parkin, our Musical Director, Carolyn also thanked everyone else for supporting this wonderful event. Monies raised will be published in due course.
