Hare Window

Hare Window

In an attempt to explain the unexplainable yet again, in her address Revd Anne distributed a picture of a very old stained glass window that is in Holy Trinity Church, Long Melford, in Suffolk. It is a very simple window compared to most stained glass windows, it comprises of a circle in which are depicted three hares. On a closer look it appears that the hares share their long ears so that they are eternally bound together. Rather like the Trinity where Father, Son and Holy Spirit are three separate entities yet are bound together as one.

Revd Anne reminded us that when the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples it gave them extraordinary skills to preach The Word of God to everyone in their own language and although the coming of the Holy Spirit meant that Jesus had given up his earthly body and had ended His ministry here on earth, in a final act He commissioned the Disciples to go to a high mountain in Galilee where He told them to make disciples of all nations and to baptise them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, making this last order the beginning of the Christian Church as we know it. Just like a circle or ring which has no ending or beginning it goes on forever, especially when we read in the bible that Jesus assured his doubting and fearful disciples that He would never leave them and that he will always be with them to the end of the age…
