The Jesse Tree

The Jesse Tree

The Jesse Tree: The Advent Carol Service held at Ford End Church was delightful. The Service was led by Revd Carolyn with Revd Dawn reading the prayers… But before prayers, we heard stories from the bible that were represented by ornaments or tiles that were brought forward to hang on the Jesse Tree. We were told that the Jesse Tree would be set up many years ago at the beginning of advent when the majority of people were unable to read, and tiles representing important stories in the bible were hung on the tree so that people could see and understand the bible stories. Among the twenty ornaments placed on the tree were tiles representing Adam and Eve, Noah, Joseph, Moses, David and Jesse of course, continuing with Solomon, John the Baptist, and the Wise men. All interspersed with carols. After prayers read by Revd Dawn, we had our final tiles brought up to represent Joseph, Mary and the Star of Bethlehem. Before the final blessing Revd Carolyn, asked the children to come forward and they each took it in turns to point out their favourite tiles. Following the final blessing, we enjoyed refreshments and mince pies… All in all, a lovely service. Thank you.
