Light a Candle for Peace.

At 7.00pm many of the people of Broomfield gathered together at the War Memorial on Church Green to Light a Candle for Peace.
Despite the noise of the traffic, a short service for Peace was conducted by Revd Carolyn.
We confessed that we took blame for our share in the world’s pride, its greed and its despair, its violence and darkness, and we longed for freedom from our sins and to be filled with God’s Peace.
Following absolution, we said the Lord’s Prayer, concluding with a prayer for peace. We made a commitment saying:
Lord God our Father, we pledge ourselves to serve you and all your peoples, in the cause of peace, for the relief of want and suffering, and for the praise of your name. Guide us by your Spirit; give us wisdom; give us courage; give us hope; and keep us faithful now and always. Amen.
The commitment we all made was followed by the lighting of the peace candles that were placed at the foot of the War Memorial.
Many of us returned once again to St Leonard’s Hall for refreshment’s during which we were able to reflect on the long day and thank God for the peace we are blessed with in this, our green and pleasant land.
