A beautiful Nativity scene

A beautiful Nativity scene

On Thursday the 13th December the Ladies Group held their annual Christmas Celebrations. Outside it was cold, wet and windy but inside, St Leonard’s Hall was warm and filled with chatter and laughter. Eventually we all settled down, the lights were lowered and in the glow of candlelight we held our yearly Carol Service singing all our favourite Carols and listening to all our much-loved readings. We had a wonderful evening especially after being introduced to the Ladies Group’s latest edition to the church by Revd Carolyn – that of a truly beautiful nativity scene, carved from wood, which was made in and purchased from the Holy Land. Following the Carol Service, we tucked into a very yummy buffet provided by the ladies themselves. Drinks of course were on the house and very welcome they were too.

Following the meal, we rummaged around for our raffle tickets, the raffle prizes numbered at least five hampers and then some additional boxes of biscuits etc… Sue Cole thanked all the people who helped make the evening so enjoyable and a small gift was presented to Jill Parkin who played the piano accompaniment to our beautiful carols. I am sure we all came in cold and went home warm and happy after a very enjoyable evening… Thank you to all those who gave us all such a lovely and memorable evening.

After all, the 3rd Advent Candle is called the Shepherd Candle or the Candle of Joy! It was the joy that the Virgin Mary felt when she gave birth to her firstborn son. It was the joy of the shepherds when the angel of the Lord appeared to them, and it’s the joy we feel when we all once again celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
